Are you thinking about homeschooling? Maybe you started already, or maybe you're a new Muslim and already homeschooled prior to Islam? Whatever the reason-you're on this page now so you won't get bored and navigate away let's get right to it!
(hey WE home-school, we know ALL about short attention spans!!)
Welcome to Homeschooling Muslimah Mommies!!! While this web site was created as a "safe place" for homeschoolers who are Muslim-all homeschoolers are welcome to join us!
Islam is for everybody and so is home-school. Feel free and comfortable to participate regardless if you are Muslim or not, all are welcome just be aware that we share Islamic resources and are Muslim so there will be some questions, resources and positive links shared from that angle bithniAllah!
I'm excited that you found my site and I hope you stop to look around and make yourself at home. It is in my Duas (prayers) that this website will quickly become a valuable starting point and later a resource for you in this journey.
Common worries, questions, concerns always arise when any loving parent wants to-or is considering a change in their child's life--How do you home-school? Is it even egal? It seems too "easy/hard"...how do I know what is right? What about socialization?
Well there are many different methods of homeschooling; or if no method seems to suit your child(ren), you are completely free to do it however you want (as long as it falls under the "legal" guidelines for your State that is. ... You can check those requirements here.
Most people homeschool using a combination of some of the different methods. I actually incorporate child led, parent-led, traditional, Religious, Montessori and some Unschooling all in one!! Basically this is called Eclectic Homeschooling (I am, however; self admittedly all over the place! You may need more structure) You can sit down with your child and talk about what your child is interested in and would like to learn about and then about how you and your child(ren) will do it.
I know, I know, it's SCARY!
You can do this!
Homeschooling is parenting+, it's mother intuition, patience, loving your children and
following the child(ren)'s passions.
Sit down and write all the things you have taught your child since birth

There are many accomplishments you have succeded in teaching/watching your child(ren) accomplish. Don't let self doubt, nay sayers or others cloud your judgement and scare you into thinking you can't teach your child. ~Holly Garza
Later on this site I have included a "year by year" guideline of what your child should be learning by their "grade level". You can also check these books out at your local library for free or check with your Regional office of education for a checklist.
History of this website-I had a blog I never updated where I was allegedly going to share my personal pre-school (and ongoing) experiences in homeschooling my daughter. I decided then to use this as an outlet to share it in the form of a site, but the web site never materialized into much.
At that time (2008-2009) there wasn't a whole lot in the way of 'support groups' or web sites for people who were homeschooling and Muslim. In talking to a sister/companion about this (Ameera Rahim of Habeebee Homeschooling -http://habeebeehomeschooling.wordpress.com/ ) she asked nonchalantly one day why didn't I make one and encouraged me to do so. Therefore I started the painful learning experience of being in the "public eye" and created this site. Eventually it all started to come together after a lot of work, stress, and wondering who exactly I thought I was going to be helping when I myself had "just started." I started to find time to manage sharing information, homeschooling and being a muslim who on top of it all worked part-tim. That is the story of how this site became, basically because there is so much out there for homeschooling parents these days thankfully, but not much for homeschoolers who don't care for Christianity in every single aspect of their homeschooling.
I home school, I'm working part time, and did not get into homeschooling for religious purposes but because more so because I love too teach my child and I just happen to be Muslim AlhamduliAllah!(All Praise and thanks are due to God) In the homeschooling world I'm (was like an alien thankfully more and more muslims are homeschooling) like an alien.
Of course being a Muslim there is a lot of gratitude towards God and Islam, we live it, and we incorporate that into our children's lives and you will see that here. However, I homeschool because I love to see my daughter's progress and I enjoy it first and foremost. Please join me and my sisters in our journey.
Website updated bi monthly-Our facebook page-a few times a week.
Homeschooling is about parenting, teaching your children how to learn and find information- it's about instilling a love for learning and it's also about utilizing our mother's intuiton, it's about learning and instilling PATIENCE, Love for your child(ren) and following the child's passions.
~Thanks for your support, participation and time, these are the things that TRULY make a "support group" work~Holly Garza (aug 2010)
"Say: we believe in God and in what has been revealed to us, and what was revealed to Abraham, Isma'il: Isaac, Jacob and The Tribes, and in (the Books) given to Moses, Jesus and the Prophets, from their Lord: We make no distinction between one and another, among them, and to God do we bow our will (in Islam)."
(Qur'an, Al-Imran 3:84)
